Iconic Moment: Civil Rights Activist Dolores Huerta Visits Washington
with Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF) Art Exhibit
Our Locomotive community had the honor of hosting Civil Rights icon Dolores Huerta on her 89th birthday! Thank you to our amazing COMMUNITY for making this day possible, and for our students who read powerful poetry and essays.
Our intention for our students was for them to learn about our Sacramento community history with the RCAF (Royal Chicano Air Force), who during the 1970’s organized with the United Farm Workers at the Washington Neighborhood Center here in the Alkalai Flats neighborhood. In commemoration of Dolores’ visit, we exhibited RCAF art work to show that community connection.
